It’s Okay to Feel a Little Lost

You know those movies about people getting lost in the woods but then they find other people who also got lost in the woods and they become friends, maybe fall in love, find their way over the raging river, out of the woods, and walk off into the sunset together?

Well, life is the woods and we’re all a little lost in it. But you know what? Whether you’re on the wide open trail and you know where you’re going, or you’re surrounded by thick woods, we’re all a little lost. Sometimes we’re in the ditch and have to climb our way out. Other times, we’ve made it to the top of the hill and we can see the whole valley down below with the path winding through it.

Maybe you’re lost in the woods where the trees are towering overhead dark and looming, clouding the path ahead. Or perhaps you’re lost in the desert where you’re tired and thirsty and just want to turn back but you’re so lost you don’t even know where to turn back to. Or a meadow or even out at sea with the waves pounding incessantly and you struggle to swim so your head is barely above water or even starting to sink. It’s okay to feel a little lost.

Nobody’s lived through this life before. Don’t forget that. It’s not like everyone has it all together and knows what they’re doing. This is the first time everyone is living this life. It’s okay.

Jane Marczewski, known professionally as Nightbirde, recently auditioned in America’s Got Talent singing her original song “It’s OK.” Despite several cancer diagnoses she stunned the audiences and people all over the world with her encouraging and incredibly relatable lyrics. Her outlook on life has been awe inspiring, perspective changing, and astounding to say the least. Recently, she had to pull out of the America’s Got Talent competition due to her continuing health decline, but her positive outlook still shines through. She posted these words on her Instagram:

“What a miracle that the pain I’ve walked through can be reworked into beauty that makes people all over the world open their eyes wider.

…Life doesn’t always give breaks to those that deserve it—but we knew that already…

…I’m planning my future, not my legacy. Pretty beat up, but I’ve still got dreams.”

Her situation is difficult and unfair, but she continues to hold her head high and I admire her strength so much. If you’re feeling lost, like most of us do at times, remember that the sun always rises tomorrow. Remember that roads aren’t always bumpy. Remember that dark forests are often beside beautiful meadows. Remember, that “it's okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay. If you're lost, we're all a little lost and it's alright.”
